History of Faith

Faith Lutheran first met at John Yeates Middle School in April 1990. Our organizing pastor was Richard Browder, who with his wife, Jo, visited much of Northern Suffolk and extended the community an invitation to be a part of Faith Lutheran Church. We moved to Sturtevant Funeral Home, next door to the current church location, in 1995. Our land was purchased and construction began in early 1997. Our dedication day was October 26, 1997. We placed a time capsule in the corner of the narthex, to be opened in 2047.

After Pastor Browder left, we were served by Interim Pastor Richard F. Batman for 1 1/2 years as we began our pastoral search. Pastor Scott Benson, with his wife Babs and daughters Kelly and Emily, arrived in August 2000.

We began a contemporary liturgical service in 2001. Youth, Women's, and Men's groups were founded that year as well. We started our Wednesday Evening service, also contemporary in nature, in December of 2010.

In 2016, we were able to have a Director of Youth Ministry come onboard. Maggie White has been a true blessing to our church and our youth, as evidenced by the amount of activity we see as our young members support our Mission at Faith.

Pastor Scott Benson retired on December 31, 2018 after 35 years in the ministry, 18 of them with us at Faith Lutheran Church. We will begin our journey for calling a new pastor this year. We are very happy to have Pastor Kaye Hute as our Interim Pastor.
